The City of New Boston is a small rural community that has been established since 1834.
New Boston Elementary is one of five attendance centers in Mercer County School District #404 and is located in New Boston, IL. This is a rural school that serves students in grades PreK through grade 4. Student enrollment runs approximately 200- 225. More information may be found at the district website here. The New Boston Fire Department operates on a volunteer basis and is huge part of the city’s culture.
The New Boston Fish Fry Park and Pavilion is centered within the community and serves as a recreational and community resource. It is also where the Annual Fish Fry takes place.
The city is also home to one operating church; The New Boston Assembly of God. Still restored in its pure form, the former Catholic Church of St. Mary’s sits within the Fish Fry park.
To maintain its historic presence, main street showcases many historic buildings, such as the New Boston Museum, where guests may tour through old architecture and artifacts of Abraham Lincoln’s time.
The New Boston Cemetery has been home to the past since the early 1800’s and could possibly be the most haunted part of the city.
