98th Annual Fish Fry A Success

The City of New Boston hosted the 98th Annual New Boston Fish and Chicken Fry on August 23-25. The weekend was filled with live music, a carnival, games, a parade, street vendors, a bags tournament, tractor pull, horseshoe tournament, fireworks, a street dance, and of course, delicious fish and chicken dinners.

The parade kicked off the day on Saturday morning. Tractors, horses and floats decorated with the theme of Rock N’ Roll marched down Main street throwing candy to hundreds of bystanders. The Mercer County Golden Eagles marching band and cheerleaders performed for the crowd as they walked with the procession. The park was filled all day with people listening to live music by the band Night Life and an Elvis impersonator, Junior Talley, and enjoying fried fish and chicken prepared by the New Boston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department. Families enjoyed the carnival rides, foods and games well into the evening hours from Friday until Saturday, and through the afternoon on Sunday. Saturday evening came to a close with fireworks by the river at dusk and a street dance with the live performance of the Dani Lynn Howe Band.

Each year young contenders from New Boston sell Fish Fry tickets to determine a Princess and Queen. This year, The 2019 New Boston Fish and Chicken Fry Princess is Abigail Lance, with Alyvia Shearer as runner up. Elaina Clark came in third place, followed by Sadie Svoboda and Lucie Moore. The 2019 Queen is Sereniti Jacobs Allison, and runner up Gracie Carle.

The New Boston Fish and Chicken Fry is an annual event that raises money for the city of New Boston and the betterment of the community.
