A Letter From the Mayor

Hello Friends and Neighbors:

It is that time of year again when we are asking for your help to spruce the city up after the long cold winter. The City will again provide a dumpster at the water tower site for your convenience to rid your property of accumulated junk. As always if you need some help to haul the waste and junk away we will do our best to accommodate you. We have had many positive comments on how nice the city is looking, however there are still areas that need to be cleaned up.

I wanted to bring you up to date on the OSLAD Grant we received from the State of Illinois. We were approved for the grant, however the awarding of the money has been put on hold for the time being. We are hoping to have everything settled by July. We cannot go forward with the plans for improvements until the money has been disbursed to us.

We will continue with the improvements to the riverfront as soon as weather permits. The tree for the statues of Lincoln and Blackhawk have been cut and prepared for sculpturing. We will be putting in one or two gazebos and several picnic tables and benches for you to sit on and enjoy the ever changing scenery on the river.

I hope by now you have had the chance to visit our new website. It is still a work in progress and we welcome any suggestions for improvement. If you have a business in New Boston that you would like put on the site, please bring a business card in to City Hall and we will work on getting that in for you. If you don’t have a card, just bring in the information about your business and we will see what we can do to help promote it.

The date for the Fish Fry is August 29, 2015 and we will begin our meetings soon. Anyone is welcome to join the committee as we will need all the help we can get! Last year’s event was a complete success as we served over 1600 people.

We are still accepting donations for trees and benches for Main Street as this will be an ongoing project this year. I would like to get some decorative lights for the street as well.

Many of you have delinquent City utility bills that must be paid immediately. You will be notified if your residence is earmarked to have the water and gas turned off due to unpaid balances. Please contact City Hall to make the arrangements for payment.

The City Wide Yard Sale will be May 30, 2015. You may contact City Hall to get your name on the map.

We will be issuing new stickers for your ATV/Golf Carts during the month of May. Some of you may not have renewed last year. Anyone not having the new 2015 sticker will be ticketed by the New Boston Police Department.

The Community Center is the recipient of a newly donated generator. The generator will be used at the Center in case of an emergency in the community with a loss of electrical power. We are heading into that time of year where we could have stormy weather or tornados that could cause the City to lose its electricity. Thanks to the donation we will be prepared for this type of emergency. One of our goals is to make the Center a “Fall Out” shelter and we will be working toward stocking it with the needed items to ensure the safety of our community.

Thank you for your continued support and concern about our hometown.

Sincerely,

Christopher DeFrieze, Mayor
